Torrevieja will once again fly six Blue Flags in 2026, reaffirming the quality and excellence of its beaches and strengthening its position as one of the leading tourist destinations on Spain’s Mediterranean coast. This international recognition, awarded by the Association for Environmental and Consumer Education (ADEAC), is granted each year to beaches that meet demanding standards related to water quality, safety, accessibility, environmental sustainability, and the services provided to residents and visitors.

The beaches of Cala Piteras, Los Náufragos, El Cura, Los Locos, Cabo Cervera, and La Mata-Sur will retain these prestigious distinctions this summer. Over the years, the Blue Flags have become a symbol of trust and quality for thousands of national and international tourists who choose Torrevieja as their holiday destination. The renewal of these awards reflects the Town Hall’s ongoing efforts to keep the coastline in the best possible condition throughout the year.

The local government highlighted that this achievement is the result of a long-term strategy focused on the continuous improvement of coastal infrastructure, the strengthening of public services, and the promotion of a more sustainable and accessible tourism model. Among the initiatives carried out are permanent cleaning and maintenance works, modernization of facilities, improved access for people with reduced mobility, and reinforced lifeguard and rescue services during the high season.

Torrevieja’s mayor, Eduardo Dolón, welcomed the renewal of these distinctions, emphasizing that maintaining all six Blue Flags “is the result of daily work and constant planning that allows us to offer top-quality beaches 365 days a year.” He also pointed out that the city’s significant population and tourism growth requires continued investment in services and infrastructure to meet the needs of both residents and visitors.

Torrevieja currently has more than 110,000 registered residents, although this figure rises considerably during the summer months with the arrival of hundreds of thousands of tourists. This large influx turns the coastline into one of the municipality’s main centers of economic, social, and tourism activity, making continuous management essential to guarantee both environmental conservation and a high-quality visitor experience.

In this regard, the Town Hall stressed that the beaches are one of the city’s main economic drivers and one of Torrevieja’s best calling cards at both national and international levels. Holding Blue Flag status also adds value to the hotel, hospitality, and commercial sectors, as many visitors take these awards into account when choosing their holiday destination.

The Town Hall also praised the coordinated work carried out by the Beaches Department and the various municipal services involved in maintaining the coastline. Environmental monitoring, water quality control, daily cleaning, maintenance of promenades, and the expansion of adapted services are all part of a broader strategy aimed at strengthening the city’s tourism competitiveness.

Another area that has been significantly improved in recent years is universal accessibility. Torrevieja’s beaches feature adapted areas, walkways, accessible toilets, and specific services for people with reduced mobility, allowing everyone to enjoy the coastline under equal conditions. In addition, environmental awareness and educational campaigns continue to be developed to encourage respect for the natural environment and the preservation of coastal ecosystems.

Sustainability has become one of the key pillars of the municipality’s tourism policy. The Town Hall is working on various initiatives aimed at reducing environmental impact, improving waste management efficiency, and promoting responsible tourism that combines economic development with environmental protection.

With the renewal of these six Blue Flags, Torrevieja once again demonstrates its commitment to tourism quality and the continuous improvement of its coastline, maintaining its status as one of the most important tourist destinations in the Valencian Community and along the Spanish Mediterranean coast.
