A Parking Lot for 656 Vehicles Opens at the Port of Torrevieja

Martínez Mus highlights "the success" of the public-private model after a €100 million investment in the Port of Torrevieja.

The Regional Minister for Environment, Infrastructure, and Territory, Vicente Martínez Mus, has highlighted the success of the public-private collaboration model involving the Generalitat, the Torrevieja City Council, and the concessionaire, which has enabled an investment of €100 million in the Port of Torrevieja.

This was stated by the Infrastructure Minister on Saturday during his visit to Torrevieja, where he inspected the progress of the works being carried out at the port, accompanied by the mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolón, and the Director General of Coasts, Ports, and Airports, Marc García Manzana. Martínez Mus declared that this project “marks an important milestone by integrating the port with the city, transforming the port area into a space for leisure and enjoyment for residents and visitors, following a strategy by the Generalitat that is already being implemented in other towns such as Benicarló and Burriana.”

The minister also referred to the opening of the new port parking facility, with a capacity for 656 vehicles, including spaces for electric vehicles and people with reduced mobility. The aim, he said, is to “alleviate the parking problem at the port, especially with the arrival of Easter and the spring holidays, when a significant increase in tourists is expected in the town.”

This parking lot, he explained, “is the first phase of an ambitious project that will revitalize Torrevieja’s seafront, creating attractive urban amenities and new commercial and leisure options.” Its completion is scheduled for the summer of 2025.

Furthermore, Martínez Mus emphasized the commitment of the Generalitat and the Torrevieja City Council “to improving infrastructure and creating high-quality public spaces that drive Torrevieja’s economic and social development,” and he praised “the efforts made by the City Council to integrate the port with the city through significant investments.”

In this regard, he also highlighted some of the municipal projects, such as the redevelopment of Paseo Libertad and its surroundings, which is being coordinated with the Generalitat. This project includes the redevelopment of the urban front adjacent to the port and the creation of an elevated walkway providing direct access from the promenade on the eastern breakwater to the future leisure center.

2025 Budget

Martínez Mus stressed the Generalitat’s commitment to Vega Baja, which “has become one of the top priorities in terms of infrastructure, with an investment of €8.5 million planned in the 2025 budget of the Regional Ministry.” This investment will mainly go toward roadworks and water infrastructure, with projects beginning this year and expected to exceed €13 million over the coming years.
