Torrevieja Kicks Off the 2024 Patron Saint Festivities and Christmas Season
The Plaza de la Constitución was the venue for a massive event that marked the lighting of the special holiday decorations, accompanied by a spectacular fireworks display that illuminated the church.
With the characteristic crackle of fireworks as a backdrop, Torrevieja lit up in a celebration reminiscent of grand occasions. The square’s sound system blasted ACDC's "Highway to Hell," an unusual choice for the holiday season but one that undeniably energized the festive spirits of the hundreds of attendees awaiting the main event. Simultaneously, the Inmaculada Concepción Church took center stage, with pyrotechnics lighting up its rooftop and purple lights adorning its bell towers, heralding the start of the 2024 Patron Saint Festivities and Christmas season.
A Major Event Featuring Performances and Notable Figures
The countdown to the lighting was led by the Corte Salinera, represented by Nuria Martí de Oro, Ana Vidal, and Inés Martínez, alongside prominent figures such as designer Eduardo Navarrate, Mayor Eduardo Dolón, and councilors Rosario Martínez and Concha Sala. The event drew thousands of attendees, solidifying its place as one of the year’s highlights.
New Lighting in the City Center and Holiday Classics
The main façade of the Town Hall debuted its Christmas lighting, standing out among the decorations adorning Plaza de la Constitución, Calle Concepción, and Paseo Vista Alegre. This year, the lighting extended to new pedestrian zones, including Fotógrafos Darblade Street, Canónigo Torres Street, Paseo de la Libertad, and Paseo de las Rocas.
Traditional elements were not left out: the white LED Nativity scene at Paseo Vista Alegre, the decorated balconies of both the old and new Town Halls, and the banners featuring the image of La Purísima announcing the upcoming celebration of the patron saint on December 8. Also standing tall was the iconic Araucaria tree near the port, along with two large illuminated Christmas trees on Paseo Juan Aparicio and Plaza de Oriente.
Torrevieja: The Epicenter of Christmas in the Province
On Saturday, streets and plazas were packed with people, many capturing the magic of the moment with their phones. The event solidified Torrevieja’s status as an early focal point of Christmas celebrations in the Alicante province, thanks to its Patron Saint Festivities.
From a dazzlingly lit stage in the square, the DJ entertained the crowd with music, including hits by Karol G, leading up to a concert by Lucía España and the Torrevieja Symphony Orchestra. During the performance, Lucía España debuted her new Christmas song, “Lo Bueno de Ti” (The Good in You), showcasing her powerful and melodic voice accompanied by a video featuring some of the city’s most picturesque scenes.
It was an unforgettable evening that officially kicked off Torrevieja’s festive season.
