Next week, the section of the La Mata pedestrian path that runs from Avenida de Los Europeos to Avenida de Los Holandeses will open.
The mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolón, has announced that the construction works will be completely finished by the end of this year, 2024.
This morning, the mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolón, along with the councilor for Infrastructure and Urban Management, Sandra Sánchez, the councilor for Beaches, Antonio Vidal, and the delegate of Civil Works for Levante of UTE Orthem-Abala, Fran Pujante, visited the repair works on the La Mata pedestrian path. These works are progressing as planned after the completion of the removal of the sanitation and supply networks that occupied the Maritime-Terrestrial Public Domain (DPMT) and their subsequent relocation, as required by the Provincial Coastal Service to authorize these necessary works.
The mayor of Torrevieja announced that next week the first section of this pedestrian path, approximately 400 square meters, will open, running from Avenida de los Europeos to Avenida de los Holandeses. During the construction, access to shops, restaurants, and the beach is being facilitated to minimize the inconvenience caused by the works, given their complexity and magnitude.
It is expected that 70% of the works will be completed by September, with the remaining 30% finished by the end of this year, 2024. Additionally, the public lighting is being renewed in the three sections, installing LED technology models that meet energy and environmental standards.
6 WORK TEAMS
A total of 6 teams are working along the entire route, distributed as follows: two teams for the assembly of foundations, modules, and tramex, another two teams for the assembly of the decking, one masonry team for various finishes, and one team for the installation of lighting.
The project is divided into three sections:
- NORTH SECTION: Between the northern limit of the municipality of Torrevieja and the Plaza de Encarnación Puchol, with a length of 306 linear meters.
- CENTRAL SECTION: Between the south of Plaza Encarnación Puchol and Avenida de los Europeos, with a length of 659 meters.
- SOUTH SECTION: Entirely located in the Molino del Agua Park, with a length of 352 meters.
The construction solution involves the renovation of the current path with a system that looks like "wood," which is ecological and removable, aiming to reduce maintenance and increase durability. The pavement is made of technological wood with three structural types: the first with a distance between the axes of the piles of 2.20 meters, the second with a distance of 1.90 meters, and the third a horizontal structure directly supported on the sand. In all cases, a rigid platform is created, formed by modules 3 meters wide and 2.90 meters long.
This solution ensures sustainability and recycling, as the production and supply of the material use raw materials combining 70% recycled pine wood products with 30% high-density polyethylene, helping to reduce deforestation and CO2 emissions.
Finally, it is worth noting that another important action in the works is the demolition in the southern section of the pedestrian path of a walkway originally built with printed concrete, which will be replaced by a wooden walkway approximately 120 meters long, to better integrate with the Natural Park environment. Additionally, a wooden railing will be installed on both sides of the central walkway of the Municipal Natural Park "Molino del Agua" in its area closest to the beach.
